German aftermarket specialist Carlsson released a new tuning package for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, offering 20 percent more power, a new aero package and interior improvements. All these are available for the E 350 CDI model, whose 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine delivers 231 horsepower out of the box. The Great Escape: Motorcyclist Rides Through a Three-Car Accident

It is a known and sad fact that most drivers will experience an accident two at some point in their careers on the road. Fortunately for the motorcyclist seen in this footage from a closed circuit camera in a tunnel, it just wasnt meant to happen this time. The driver of the motorcycle miraculously passed through a three car accident that seems to have been caused by two cars chasing each other,

We dont know the wheres and whens of the incident and theres a good chance that this video may not be new, but the commentator on the background appears to be speaking Portuguese (any help with translation would be appreciated). Watch the clip after the break.

2012 VW Beetle to Participate in New Car Sharing Scheme in Hanover

To be completely frank, what caught our attention in Volkswagens latest press release (and probably yours in this post) on the new pilot car-sharing program called Quicar, wasnt the news itself but the special livery of the 2012 Beetle shown in the promotional set of photos. Nevertheless, since we already told you the headline heres the rest of the story on Volkswagens new car sharing concept that will take place in the German city of Hanover (or Hannover). Vilner Custom Studio Takes on the Smart ForTwo

You may or may not like Vilner's aesthetic proposals, but youll have to agree that Bulgarian studio is a very good example of what a company from a relatively small country with no background in its niche can achieve with some hard work and smart yet efficient marketing tactics. You see, instead of focusing on the local market and waiting for someone to discover the firms products, over the past year or so Vilner has been aggressively promoting every tune it has worked on. We dont know if this strategy has translated into an overseas income, but it has put the company on the map, and thats something worth noting.

In this latest tune, Vilner crafted a bespoke Smart ForTwo for one of its local customers. The Lilliputian two-door model received extensive styling modifications built around a square motive that is visible inside and out. On the outside, the ForTwo gains a colorful wrap that includes a chrome finish at the back and orange wheels, while the interior has been completely reworked featuring new and more luxurious materials throughout. Follow the jump for more pictures as well as a video from the build.

Vladimir Putins Lada Stunt Turns into a Joke as Car Fails to Start

What do you call a Lada that starts the first time? A novelty! This is only one of numerous joke about Ladas cars and their reliability but to the misfortune of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the joke turned out to be true during an official presentation of the troubled automakers new Granta small sedan.

The 58-year-old prime minister attended the unveiling of Ladas budget model at the headquarters of its car manufacturer Avtovaz in the Volga River city of Tolyatti. In his usual confident style, Putin approached the car for a first look. The troubles started right from the beginning as one of the men accompanying the prime minister had a hard time opening the vehicles boot.

Then, in a marketing fail comparable only to Volvos unbelievable crash incident last year, Putin entered the car to take it for a test drive. He tried to start it once. He failed. He tried a second time, nothing. The same thing happened three more times until finally, the Lada came into life. Luckily for us, the entire incident was captured on film. Watch the video right after the jump.

Mercedes-Benz Rumored to be Readying Monstrous G65 AMG Limited Edition with 612HP V12

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen, started its life towards the end of the 1970s as a rugged off-roader featuring a body-on-frame construction and three fully locking differentials, one. And even though the base models continue the same formula today, somewhere down the line, a crazy AMG engineer had a eureka moment and threw in a powerful engine under the hood transforming the boxy 4x4 into a 3.5-tonne weapon capable of humiliating sports car in a straight line duel.

Today, the most potent G-Class model is the G55 AMG fitted with a supercharged 5.5-liter V8 engine developing 507-horses and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of peak torque for a 0-100km/h (62mph) in just 5.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 210 km/h. But that may soon change if we are to believe a report from Dutch website Autoblog.nl on a new range topping G-Class model with the G65 AMG moniker.

The E-4 Coupe has been developed from the ground up with the intention to obtain a curb weight as low as possible, while considering the presence of batteries, which unavoidably add weight. New Hyundai i40 Sedan Bows at Barcelona Motor Show, gets 177HP 2.0-liter Engine

This is Hyundais all-new i40 sedan and it was unwrapped today at the 2011 Barcelona Motor Show. It follows the presentation of the i40 station wagon showcased at the 2011 Geneva Salon in March, and its Hyundais submission in the highly competitive D-segment in Europe with rivals such as the Citroen C5 and the Volkswagen Passat.

In terms of design, Hyundais newcomer may look very similar to the latest Elantra sold in North America and other parts of the world. However, measuring 4.74 meters (186.6-in.) in length, the i40 approximately 380 mm or 15-inches longer than the compact sedan. Europes equivalent of the Sonata rides on a wheelbase of 2.77-meters, with Hyundai claiming it offers best-in-class room for front head, shoulder and leg. The Korean carmaker also boasts that the i40 will provide passengers with "the most comfortable ride available in the D-segment".

Britains Wonderland Syndrome: Motorists Deliberately Causing Accidents and Claiming Big Payouts

Godfather of Soul James Brown once sang, Stock market going up, jobs going down, and hes never been more right. Only its not the stock market going up, its car insurance in the UK. And its going up a lot. Twelve months ago, drivers were paying (on average) 633.55 to insure their cars. Now theyre 892.08 or forty percent more, and there was a similar 40% increase the year before and the year before that. Yet with accidents declining and the competition increasing more than ever before, premiums youd think would be lower than ever.

So what gives? Well, insurance companies are making bigger payouts thanks to litigation. Litigation! Roughly 200 claims a year to be exact, executed by those nefarious, no win, no fee lawyer-types. And this is in the UK; a country that Id have thought would have more sense than that. Fortunately, it seems some people in the UK do have more sense than that as British Parliament has finally woken up to this litigation bully.

Defunct Brand Owners Shun GM and Ford

There are some three million former Saturn, Pontiac and Hummer customers in the United States, all of whom will unlikely ever have the pleasure of buying a newer model of their current make again. These are some of Americas defunct brands, all gone the same way as Plymouth, DeSoto, Packard and many others. These latest additions were culled following General Motors bankruptcy reorganisation in 2009. And Mercury owners are in the same boat.

Now, Ford and GM are desperately trying to hold onto these brand-less customers. Accoriding to a report from the Wall Street Journal, in this year alone, 70% Pontiac owners, 71% of Saturn owners and 65% of Mercury owners who traded in their vehicles left with something other than a Ford or GM product.

BMW Showcases Fleet of Emergency Vehicles at RETTmobil 2011

BMW has a more down-to-earth approach to the show as its emergency models are based on mainstream vehicles that are more suitable for this line of work than the fast, but unpractical, SLS AMG. We're talking about the BMW 3-Series/5-Series Touring models and the X3/X6 SUVs, although the latter is not new, having premiered at the same show in 2008.

Watch a Lamborghini Aventador Being Assembled Piece by Piece in a Museum!

And guess what? It aint over yet as we have one more video, one far more interesting. Among the many events related to the Aventador launch there was also a display inside the Chiostro del Bramante, a contemporary art museum located in the historical center of Rome.

Entitled La Forza del Toro (Italian for The Force of the Bull), the exhibition consisted of a Lamborghini Aventador and five V12 engines from different periods of time. Nothing out of the ordinary so far, except the fact that builders of the 16th century building erected it without anticipating that a 2.03-meter wide, 4.78-meter long supercar would one day have to come inside

All-New 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Hatchback Revealed in Patent Images

The production A-Class appears to be closely modeled after the concept version, albeit with less dramatic body surfacing and detailing. For example, the nose has been lifted up and is less aggressively styled than on the prototype study.

Saab Boss Victor Muller Hints at US and EU Distribution of China's Hawtai Cars, Says Buyers Wont Care about Safety

The ink on the deal / partnership between Saab and Chinas Hawtai Motor Group has barely dried, but the Swedish automaker's chairman and Spyker CEO, Victor Muller is already making headlines again by hinting at the distribution of cheap Chinese cars in the United States, Europe and elsewhere through Saabs established global network.

"We laughed when the Japanese came. We laughed when the Koreans came. But we will not be laughing when the Chinese come. The Chinese are like a steamroller, said Victor Muller, during a press event in Washington, D.C.

Muller said that if an agreement is reached with Hawtai, the Chinese maker could make use of Saabs distribution network to sell its cars globally.

"It took 67 years to build up our dealer network. It is the biggest asset not on our asset sheet, and these guys buy into it for free. If they make the proper cars, can you image how much simpler it will be to push product through the distribution network that is already there? It is like a railway network that is already there," said Muller.

Belmondos Chase Scene from Le Professionnel (1981)

Georges Lautners 1981 action-thriller Le Professionnel is about a French Secret Service agent betrayed by his employers and left to rot in an African prison camp. After breaking out and returning to his native France, the agent (played by Jean-Paul Belmondo) begins plotting his revenge against the people who set him up. In this scene, Belmondo is attempting to outfox the French Secret Service agents following him.

Belmodonos car is the red Fiat 131 Supermirafiori while his rivals are driving a black Peugeot 504. There are a couple of 180 degree turns, a handful of nice pit manoeuvres and the prerequisite shot of the Eiffel Tower for the non-Gallic viewers. The chase eventually moves to the grounds of the Palais de Chaillot, where we discover just how overused that, driving a car down some stairs, thing was before Jason Bourne got around to it.

Study finds the Most Vandalised Car in Britain is the Lexus IS

Bad news for Lexus IS owners across the pond: if you happen to own one of the Japanese brands entry-level sedans, youre in possession of the most vandalised car in the UK. Runners up are BMWs Z4 sports coupe and MINIs entry-level One model. Its all been revealed as part of SwiftCover.coms Vehicle Vandalism Index (VVI), whereby the UK-based insurer analysed some 2,000 motor insurance claims. SwiftCover claims director Robin Reames explains:

Our analysis shows that luxury cars are more likely to be targeted by vandals, however, it's interesting to see the MINI One in the top three. The majority of vehicles in the top ten are what we call 'executive cars', likely to be driven by high earners who see their car as a status symbol, with just one 4x4 making up the top ten.
